ILSBio has become a valued partner to our host countries. Over the years, ILSBio has worked with health officials in these host countries to implement screening programs – most notably country-wide clinical breast exams, Pap screening, Hepatitis B vaccination and treatment, and HIV screening of pregnant women, as well as, patient education and outreach prevention programs. ILSBio has also conducted major cancer conferences, and various surgical and radiology short courses and seminars in our partner countries. To date ILSBio has sponsored fellowships and observerships for over 30 visiting physicians at major U.S. institutions including Stanford, M.D. Anderson, Dana Farber, Johns Hopkins, Columbia, University of Pennsylvania, New York University and University of Iowa. ILSBio has brought our collaborators to the U.S. for them to present the results of our joint collaborations at major conferences (i.e. Pap Screening Implementation at the U.S./Canadian Academy of Pathology Annual Meeting and at the International Cervical Cancer Conference held at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center). 3. ILSBio sponsors continuing education for host physicians. This summer, ILSBio is sponsoring the visits of 6 physicians and one hospital director for training and collaboration introductions. Topics include: FISH Her2neu analysis, a surgical pathology observership and obtaining partners for the implementation of a heart transplantation surgery program. In August, an additional young pathologist will commence his 1-year fellowship in molecular level diagnostics at Stanford. ILSBio has received many awards and honors from health officials in our host countries (i.e. ILSBio was recently cited for an award by the Minister of Health of one of our host countries for arranging no cost PCR screening of patient blood samples during a recent Dengue Fever epidemic. And, we are currently jointly conducting a no cost BRACA1 & 2 incidence study in another host country). Our personnel are very proud of these accomplishments and hope that some day our source of cancer research tissues in these countries will begin to diminish. |
